semantic web#
Interested to read you're involved in the semantic web movement. When I read about, I felt really attracted. Then, after having digged further, I was not enthousiastic at all anymore. Don't really know why, surprised myself. Especially the notion of ontology (what a word !) doesn't seduce me at all. I fully agree with Clay Shirky in http://shirky.com/writings/ontology_overrated.html
PS : I also liked http://www.shirky.com/writings/semantic_syllogism.html

John says: Though I'd enjoy engaging about Shirky's (dubiously cogent) screeds, this is is a forum to discuss wiki markup. I don't want to explore the relative merits of ontologies, but would rather focus on how snippets of text within a wiki, can be named by an author (or others) so that such information can be extracted. If it is not named, then it cannot be extracted. If it cannot be extracted, then it cannot be used in other contexts... an outcome both silly and unacceptable.
